What is a Notary Public?A Notary Public identifies signers of a document and ensures they execute the document personally. They establish the signer's identity and authorization to sign the document using satisfactory evidence as per state laws. Common forms of identification include driver's licenses, passports, military ID cards, and other government-issued photo IDs. Notaries also administer oaths and affirmations for affidavits, court proceedings, and swear in newly appointed attorneys. In summary, notaries verify a signer's identity, witness the execution of documents, and administer oaths.
